The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Physical Education and Sport Sciences for Women, University of Baghdad, hosted—under the patronage of the Dean, Prof. Dr. Fatima Abd Malih, and the supervision of the Unit Head, Lect. Dr. Mais Mahmoud Salman, the international trainer, and Haider Yousif will deliver a theoretical and practical scientific workshop titled (Self-Defense) for undergraduate students.
Captain Haider presented the workshop, covering several theoretical topics that focused on the philosophical and ethical dimensions of self-defense. He emphasized that self-defense is a means of protecting one’s life, not an act of aggression toward others, stressing the importance of awareness before strength and self-control before controlling an opponent.
He also discussed key concepts such as balance, self-confidence, discipline, respect, and patience as foundations of true strength. The workshop included a practical segment featuring specialized self-defense techniques, allowing students to apply the theoretical principles in a hands-on context.
At the end of the workshop, the Dean honored international trainer Haider Yousif with a letter of appreciation in recognition of his efforts in ensuring the success of the event, which aims to enhance students’ physical, motor, and skill-based abilities. She also expressed her hope for the continuation of such workshops to maximize student benefit.
It is worth noting that this workshop aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), reflecting the College’s commitment to empowering women and strengthening their capabilities across various fields.
